About Us

Culturally Safe Mental Health Support for Men within Black & Minority Ethnic Communities.

Founder’s Story

SafeMind Brotherhood Founder

My name is Joseph Nebo, and I am the Founder of SafeMind Brotherhood CIC.

As a Black man living in the United Kingdom, I have personally witnessed and experienced many of the challenges that men from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities face when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. Cultural expectations, stigma, discrimination, social isolation, and the pressure to remain strong often prevent men from speaking openly about their struggles or seeking help when they need it most.

Alongside my lived experience, I have spent several years working within mental health services in the UK, supporting individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. Through both my professional practice as a Mental Health Nurse and my personal experiences as a member of the BME community, I became increasingly aware of the gaps that exist in culturally appropriate mental health support for men.

I founded SafeMind Brotherhood CIC because I believe that every man deserves a safe space where he can be heard, understood, and supported without fear of judgement. My vision is to create a community where men can openly discuss their mental health, build meaningful connections, develop resilience, and access support that respects their cultural identity and lived experiences.

SafeMind Brotherhood CIC is more than an organisation; it is a movement dedicated to breaking down stigma, fostering brotherhood, and empowering men to thrive mentally, emotionally, socially, and economically. We aim to reduce health inequalities, strengthen families, and build stronger communities by supporting men before they reach crisis point.

Through awareness, peer support, mentorship, education, advocacy, and community engagement, SafeMind Brotherhood CIC seeks to inspire hope, encourage healing, and create lasting positive change for men from BME communities across Nottingham and beyond.

Our message is simple: no man should have to struggle alone.
